Redarc BCDC Core 40A: Elevating Off-Grid Power Management
For over a decade, REDARC’s BCDC platform has been a cornerstone for off-grid adventurers, providing reliable power solutions. The BCDC Core 40A DC to DC In-Cabin Battery Charger represents the next evolution of this legendary platform, catering to those seeking a versatile and efficient charging solution for in-cabin, canopy, or battery box setups.
Overview
1. Next-Level Charging Technology
The BCDC Core 40amp incorporates REDARC’s well-established dual input DC charging technology alongside an MPPT solar regulator and Green Power Priority. This powerful combination allows the BCDC Core to efficiently charge from both the alternator and solar simultaneously, ensuring maximum charge capacity in any scenario. It’s a reliable solution for those who require a charging system that adapts to various conditions seamlessly.
2. Maximum Charge Efficiency
A standout feature of the BCDC Core is its Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) solar regulator and ‘Green Power Priority.’ This unique combination ensures that the BCDC Core optimally charges from both solar and the alternator simultaneously. Not only does this maximize the charge rate, but it also minimizes the load on the alternator, leading to fuel savings—a significant benefit for those conscious of both efficiency and environmental impact.
3. Compact & Silent Design
With a compact form factor and a design free of loud fans or relays, the BCDC Core can be discreetly tucked away, preserving the aesthetics of your cabin or interior. Whether placed under the rear floor, behind a side panel, or under the seats, the BCDC Core seamlessly integrates into your vehicle, leaving room for more essential elements of your setup.
4. Lithium Ready
Emphasizing adaptability, the Redarc BCDC Core In-Cabin 40AMP Charger comes equipped with chemistry-specific charging profiles, including lithium. This feature ensures that your batteries are prepared for diverse adventures. Independently verified and tested, the award-winning technology in the BCDC Core maximizes battery life, charging your battery to a proven 100%.
Note: The BCDC Core 40A is recommended for lead-acid battery banks over 200Ah and lithium batteries over 100Ah.
How It Works
Dive into the intricacies of the RedArc Core Charging Stages and how it functions below.
BOOST Stage: Upon correct installation and validation of a power input source, the Battery Charger initiates the charging process in the Boost stage. Here, a constant current is maintained until the auxiliary battery voltage reaches its Absorption Voltage. Dynamic adjustments may occur during the Boost stage to ensure a safe operating temperature and to limit the voltage difference between the input and output, enhancing overall efficiency.
ABSORPTION Stage: Subsequently, the Charger transitions to the Absorption stage, where a constant voltage level is upheld for a predetermined duration or until the current drawn by the output battery diminishes to a specified level for 30 seconds. Following this, the Charger seamlessly progresses into the Float stage.
FLOAT Stage: In the Float stage, a consistent voltage of 13.3V (13.6V for LiFePO4) is maintained on the output battery. This meticulous voltage management serves to keep the battery consistently charged, counteracting any self-discharge tendencies or the impact of applied loads. Should the battery experience a decline in charge, the Battery Charger seamlessly re-enters the Boost stage to commence the charging cycle anew.
Performance:
The real test of any charger is its performance under diverse conditions. The Redarc BCDC Core 40amp Charger Range excels in providing a consistent and reliable power supply, whether navigating through rough terrains, enduring temperature fluctuations, or relying on solar input during extended stays off the grid.
The dual input charging system, coupled with the MPPT technology, ensures a steady flow of power to the batteries, even in less-than-ideal scenarios.
Users report a noticeable improvement in charging speed compared to traditional chargers, enhancing the overall efficiency of their power systems.
Mounting Locations
The BCDC Core Battery Charger is designed for installation within the vehicles cabin or in similarly protected environment such as in a ute canopy, caravan or batteyr box. The unit will operate below 55°C/130°F with good airflow.
At higher temperatures the unit will derate the Out current up to 80°/175°F at which point the unit will turn OFF.
Important: The BCDC Core must not be mounted in the engine bay of a vehicle. Moisture ingress and heat build up may damage the battery charger.
